Today, a growing number of companies assume responsibility for their products - a responsibility which spans from development and production to waste recycling. End-of-life product information is therefore particularly important for correct and sound environemtal treatment and recovery.

This is why the European Union has adopted two Directives (§11 WEEE and §10 ELV)  which requires producers and others who put electronic devices and passenger cars on the European market  to make end-of-life relevant product information available to treatment and recycling facilities.

This requirement to provide information is interpreted differently by the EU-Member States;  some have settled with informal request and others have introduced strict provisions.
